Dahab

Holiday scene

Dahab lies on the Gulf of Aqaba at the northern end of the Red Sea; Israel and Jordan are only a couple of hours away, and on a clear day, Saudi Arabia looks as if it is within swimming distance. One hour taxi ride through the desert mountains from the airport at Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab is a small coastal town famous for its diving and laid-back lifestyle. Originally favoured by those wanting an alternative lifestyle, yoga and therapies have always been popular here.

Sunset

Everything in Dahab is ‘Bedouin style’ from the low level seating to the tea! The camels walking home along the main road and the wandering goats and sheep are a constant reminder of the nomadic nature of the people here. The Bedouin are welcoming and friendly, and while in Dahab, take the opportunity to get out into the desert for a Bedouin dinner – the food is hearty and there are stars in abundance.

Sandy beaches

Dahab in Arabic means ‘Gold’ and the town was so-called because of the colour of its sandy beaches. The coral reef stretches all along the coast, and with warm water temperatures all year, great visibility and hardly any current, the Red Sea is one of the best places to dive anywhere in the world. It is always sunny here, but often windy, and the almost-guaranteed wind also makes Dahab a favourite location for windsurfing and kite surfing.

Desert

Combine beach-front restaurants with sun loungers, stunning scenery and as many activities as you could pack into your holiday (if you wanted to), Dahab is suited to those wanting sun and pure relaxation, as well as those who need a little more stimulation! You can choose from camel, boat or jeep safaris, horse riding, hiking, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, windsurfing and kite surfing, as well as a variety of other excursions. Visit a monastery, mountain or castle .. to name but a few!
